Smile, its free therapy

Scare a developer in 3 words: PRODUCTION ON FRIDAY

It was a Saturday morning, a call from my teammate woke me up. It was to inform me that my code had bugs and it led to the production server crashing. A team meeting was called for immediately and after enough brainstorming and problem solving, the server was back up and running.

I later went to groom my cat and I caught her chasing housefly hopping on from one piece of furniture to another, her silly struggles were hilarious (Spoiler alert: She couldn't catch the fly)! Watching her prance was enough to make me chuckle.

Smiling fills our body with joy. Quite literally. I know this might sound like jargon, but tiny molecules known as neuropeptides are released when we smile and they help in fighting stress. It is common knowledge that smiles play a major role in recovering from stress-related anxiety and calms our heart faster.

The prominence of Smiling is evident from the instance when the tech giant Amazon decided to imbibe it in its trademark design, by changing its logo in 2000, to what we know it as today. The logo showcases Amazon as a trustworthy service by mimicking a smile which subconsciously creates a positive image for the brand.

Smiling helps in boosting energy and enhances the work environment resulting in increased productivity. Smile is infectious; it makes room for creativity and lets ideas flow inorganically. It has become a significant part of workplace culture, commonly known as "Soft Skills". It has hence been advised to greet our colleagues, seniors, and authorities with a smile. It shows compassion to people in times of need and lightens up their day without any verbal gestures.

A smile exudes confidence, a cheerful personality. People, in general, are more drawn towards charismatic people. So make sure you smile every day. :)
